Hi Guys,

I already posted my current project w/c is a DML Panther Ausf.A (late) in the rivet review. I just want to get some inputs from you guys. This is my first attempt of applying zimmerit, and also my first time in using Elmer's interior wood putty as zimmerit material (experiment)...

Elmer's interior wood putty used as zimmerit

Used AB for turret number and scratchbuilt schurzen using aluminum from "leche flan" pan

Attached indy-tracks with weathering using oil wash..

close-up view of tracks.

Other pics can be found in my gallery.

All comments positive or negative are very much welcome because they will be for improvement...

Thanks

jeep:
Track color combination is as follows:
a) Blue (mid or dark) + Black + Red-Brown
- Make sure that the color is near the blueish tone
b) wash with red-brown + black
- color tone should be near the rust effect
c) Rust color
- I discovered it by mistake.....
- used burnt sienna with oil as wash (for the road wheel) but it spilled onto the tracks.

I tested the oil wash on the glacis, but I do not like the effect I think its too rusty. I'll try to tone it down. Yup, the road wheel needs more weathering effect....it still coated with the wipe n' shine... I just tested the Krylon matt finish on one...I stopped coz I can't take the smell....oops got a meeting presentation......

Looking good! Love the tracks! The decals are a little bit clean, tone it down either by dusting para magblend sya sa model.

Hey warthog,

Great work! The zimmerit turned out fine, that was very resourceful using a wood putty.
I also like the tracks, maybe i should try your color combi. :-)

Blitz: I don't know if you can call it resourcefulness or economics....I do not have budget for milliput and not sure where to buy....

Shonen: I did not use decals, I stenciled the number and balkencruz...I was thinking that the decal won't stick and look well wit zimmerit. There are no weathering yet on the turret and hull except for the roadwheels....and you are right its very clean, I really need to weather it ...

Thak you very much for all comments and suggestions for improvements, all are valid and will be considered....

Any additional suggestions will be very much welcom

thanks

My solution for that is Microsol/Microset combo. This will thin the decal and conforms well to ireg places such as your zimmerit. Try it sometimes!

Shonen: Thanks for the tip, I'll try it sometime...BTW, how much does it cost and it available at STC or Lil's?

Microset/sol are both sometimes available at JMN (kung di ka naunahan ni GI or ni Shonen hehe). Each bottle is worth 200++ IIRC. I only use Microsol and it works wonders. Haven't tried it on zimm yet.

Jeep: Masyado mahal....pero thanks for the info. If I have the time and budget to buy, I'l try but for the meantime I'll probably settle for stenciling the number at least I have the freedom to choose the turret number I wish, w/c BTW is the reason pala why I settled for stenciling it in the first place. I did not use the actual turret numbers w/c came with the kit for the Panther.

IIRC, Rysorne suggested before using hot water to remove the decal from its backing. This makes it even softer.

I wonder... since Microset smells like vinegar, could vinegar work as a setting solution/solvent? Has anyone tried it out?

W: Panther looks deadly. :-) I particularly like the tracks (as well as the interesting painting procedure - methinks me do that too someday)

Mahal nga talaga yung Microsol at Microset. Nagamit ko lang so far yung Microsol. Di gano maganda results pag di mo ginamit parehas.

Yes, pwede ang vinegar (as I have heard of it) kaso lang depends sa vinegar mo. Pag masyadong matapang baka mapunit agad yung decals.

Well what do you know. I have the same tank. I just finished it around 3 days ago ( To all IPMS BAC, the Panther you saw was finished indeed but I was somehow discontented with it so I read a few weathering articles & added more weathering).
You did this one very well Warthog! My Panther actually had no Zimmerit (w/c is quite illegal) since I still had no putty nor experience back then. I'll try Zimm in the future. Yours was a sort of inspiration for me.

Fritz: This is the first time I applied zimmerit...at the moment I am not contented with the way I applied the zimmerit...its still a bit thick. Next time I'll make some changes. BTW, I used Elmer's interior wood putty for the zimmerit. You should see the zimmerit of Jeepney on his Jadgpanther its very good.

Thank you very much for the comment considering you are one the best armor modellers I've seen....

Thanks warthog!

Malamang Elmer's gagamitin ko on other zimm patterns din. Yung Milliput ok lang sya sa flat "sliced" pattern. Pero sa ibang raked patterns di ko lang alam kung gagana kasi di sya gaanong dumidikit sa hull. Pwede rin siguro sa ridged pattern. Try ko again when I get my hands on a Ferdinand/Elefant

Thanks Warthog!
About weathering the underside. I've read in some articles that what they did to achieve a really nice 'n rusty underside (and roadwheels) is that they basecoated it with red brown or some rust/brown color. After that they pretty much added some oil washes and pastelling of rust/brown/orange colors to add realism. Of course do that only if you intend to do some heavy weathering. I myself haven't tried this method yet but since your just in the middle of your painting/weathering, I guess you could adapt or partly use that technique.
There's something about the Panthers & Tiger 1's that don't look good if you color their roadwheels with the same body color.

Do you plan to crowd this tank? I mean put some figures in them? Currently I'm using DML item no. 6191 Achtung-Jabo as the tank crew for my tank. They really help in making your tank look more real.

I went to Urban yesterday (the STC reseller) & found them resupplied with kits.
1) DML King Tiger Porsche turret (P1100.00)
2) DML Sd. Kfz. 251(P 1000.00)
3) New DML figure sets (a lot of 6080+ sets in there)
4) DML 10th anniversary figure sets (P 400.00)

I guess the same resupplying applies to all STC branches.

P.S. They still have the Trumpeter Leopold that sells for P 3850.00. That's a P 1100.00 price difference to Lil's stock.

Fritz: Sorry, just the your post lately...I like your tip regarding the undeside...I'll remember that. What I usually do is brush the underside with mud/earth mixed with diluted elmer's glue. That is also how I do heavy weathering for the wheels. Yes, I do plan to include fifures with the Panther...either DML 6195 (FJR in Intaly) or DML 6014 (German Tank crew)...actually I have several set of figs...(everytime I go to STC or Lil's (cheaper) I buy one...kaya galit misis ubos ko daw pera ko).

I'm almost done with the weathering (very heavy...looks very dirty..ehh)..just take some pics...

Hi Guys:

Here is the latest update of the Panther that I am working on (hmmm.. started 4 months ago...sobra tagal na..). Any criticism (+/-) is very much appreciated. I also posted it the rivet review.

Jeep: Look at the intake screen I used (made of the mesh purse I was telling you before...)

Top view showing intake screen.

There are other pics in my profile under unfinished...

Thanks

Jeep: The screen cost me Php 13.00 only and its good for 20 more panthers...buti na lang na-cover ng paint ang mga flowers. Just curious, in your opinion, do you think I over weathered the tank?

Thanks

I don't think it is over-weathered. Pansinin mo heavy equipment sa construction area at parang ganito na rin. The tankers didn't have time to clean up their tanks. Maybe wipe some mud off the markings every once in a while pero the whole tank di siguro.
