2 thoughts in mind:

1. They cancel it because it is costly and not good for mass production.

2. It is NOT anymore a secret program so they had to cancel it. Maybe they had another chopper in mind, cheaper and more stealthy.

Pity, all that money going to waste.... Still, despite it's huge price tag, I think this program's more deserving of funding than the F-22 (a Cold War weapon) or the V-22 (more suited to peacekeeping, but plagued with problems). Then again, there isn't really a need for ANY of these in the US military (except possibly the Osprey - but it's not living up to expectations) - they've got great airpower and helicopters already. I'm predicting that NONE of these 3 programs will come to fruiton.

This story reminds me of the MBT-70 project, a joint venture between Germany and the US to create a high-tech wondertank. Too much money got spent too fast on a problematic piece of equipment - they dropped it and replaced it with the M1 and Leopard 2 tanks, both incredibly expensive to develop. If that money had been spent on the MBT-70, the US and Germany could have had even better tanks than they do now (and that's saying a lot!). Maybe the same thing will happen here with Commanche and its "cheaper-but-not-really" replacement....

The cancellation of the Comanche now made me wanna finish my Italeri Comanche. I know it's a bad model, but I will do it in honor of the cancelled chopper.

Sure! But don't count on how good the outcome would be. Blame Italeri for that.

Amen to that, Flex! An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure.... or something like that...

Besides, the US can't be everywhere at once, maybe some of its military budget should go to helping out its allies.... like the Philippines! #:-)
