Ola People

I have been working the whole evening to get all the pics of the Fieldtrip, that a couple of members of the Dutch section had last Sunday (22 Februari 2004), webfriendly and put them online. In them are some pics of the Oosterbeek Region (Perimeter Route) Pictures of Hotel Hartenstein (Former British Headquarters during Market Garden and now the Famous Airborne Museum. And Two quite complete Walkarounds of two pieces of material that stood outside the Hotel hartenstein.
I will start off with:

Yup that is Hotel Hartenstein
Now in this Hotel wich is now a museum you will find a lot of Information, weapons, uniforms, Documentation and god knows what is related to Market Garden and the Airborne Landings.
A small Peak in the Hartenstein Collection (Actually the worst set of pics I took on the whole day because most of the Stuff that stood there was behind glass and there my camera is not that suffisticated I couldn`t get more out of it. Other dutch members have made more and better pics. I will only show you the best I could do there)

Next comes the pictures that were taken during the walk of the Perimeter Route. The Perimeter was the defense line the allies had to keep one Escape route open when everything went wrong. And I was really excited as the country side where I live was not that stunning and Beautifull. When you walk through the Woods around Oosterbeek it`s hard to imagine that in that particular area such big fights and struggles had happened.

above is the house of Kate Ter Horst Wellknown for putting her house available as temporarily hospital (see a bridge too far)

Above The Tafelberg, the headquarters of Fieldmarschalk Model as it is today

Then Up to a walkaround I took of a Sherman that stood in front of the museum. Not sure wich type it is but there are plenty people here that can. It`s quite a big walkaround I shot in total 47 pictures of the thing. Here are some samples:

The Tanker on top of the Tank is Wouter (APBullet)

And last but absolutley not least: The Walkaround of the Howitzer 17 pounder that stood next to the sherman. Also this is quite a complete walkaround of this machine. 37 Pictures and every corner of the thing is covered.
A few samples:

More pics of this piece of artillery can be found here:

I hope you all like the pics and that they give a nice impression of how the day was. If you ever are able to come to this region make sure you visit the village Oosterbeek and follow the Perimeter route and visit the Hotel Hartenstein It`s definately worth it

Hmmm, good pictures. All the more reason for a polarizing lense to remove reflections in glass in the museum shots.
As for the Sherman. My guess is an M-4 early, with added armor over the visor blocks in front. It has the older 3 pc transmission cover, butthe wider mantlet cover. But you ought to get some PE headlight guards, and search your spares box for headlights...
