Ever wondered how to remove the factory-applied paint from diecast models? No need to mess about with chemicals or nasty fluids ... all you need is boiling water.
Having first removed any plastic components, simply immerse the metal parts in a pan of boiling water. Allow the water to continue boiling for about 15 minutes, then CAREFULLY remove the parts. Using a craft knife, begin to peel the paint away. The process can be repeated until the paint is completely removed. It is surprising just how much fine detail has been obscured by the original paintwork. With a coat of primer, the model can then be re-painted using either enamels or acrylics. I am in the process of doing just this with Oxford Diecast's Military Land Rover Defender. I will need to add some refinements to the model, but I am sure that using matt paints, appropriate decals, and judicious weathering will result in a more-realistic miniature. Anyone else tried this method?
