I have the Lindberg kit, and while I haven't built it yet it looks ok at first glance. You should be able to pick it up quite easily. The kit says that it is 1/32, but 1/35 should work ok. I would replace some of the figures, and the others require some sculpting to improve them. As I said, on the whole, not a bad kit.

Your best bet is to wait for the Italeri LCM Mk III. It can carry a tank. The old LCVP by Lindberg is only big enough to carry troops or a Jeep and trailer, perhaps a deuce and a half. I recently got one about $5 on eBay (LCVP). It is still a decent kit that just needs some modernized parts (new .30 cals, new figures, better detailed hull fittings).
I've got an old Airfix 1/72 scale (really 1/76) LCM Mk III and the Squadron Signal US Landing Craft in action book for reference.
