I have the Trumpeter 170mm version of this kit. Question is what would this vehicle have been used for? Self propelled artillery, anti tank or other.

Heavy artillery.
I don't think the gun could be aimed/trained fast enough to be able to hunt tanks.
Heavy artillery can do a lot of damage to tanks that stand still or move in a predictable manner along a road but then it is still an artillery mission.
