Hi all,

I want to ask if it is recommended (and if so how) to selectively strip acrylic paint. I tried to freehand camouflage on a 1/72 Airfix Curtis Tomahawk and failed miserably.

This was only made worse by my attempts to selectively strip and repaint. The photos show in some places I have stripped passed the primer, and blending in the stripped areas seems impossible.

However, the bottom of the model is fully masked, and I'm reluctant to strip the entire fuselage. So I have a few questions for more veteran modelers:

a) Is there a way to blend when you've eaten through even the primer?

b) Is stripping back just the upper surfaces (while retaining lower surface masking) well advised?

c) If (b) is true what chemicals/techniques are recommended for stripping Badger Stynylrez primer and Vallejo Model Air in this instance?

Thanks in advance.

Have you considered a light wet sanding with very fine course
sand paper....this should remove any "step" that was created
in the missing spots and go back and base coat your aircraft
again.....this will create an overall leveled finish.

Cheers,
Joe
