Having a little resurgence in modelling so decided to join the Egg Plane/Caricature GB over at Aeroscale .

As I tend to "march to the beat of a different drum" , I've chosen to build my own. So enough blah, blah, (I know you lot only look at the photos anyway )

Well after a few hours slaving over a hot stove I've got something to work with



Roger's handy tip for today - when glueing this type of fully enclosed thing make sure you drill a small hole to allow for air pressure changes. I learn't that one the hard way many years ago .

Are you doing a egg just for the body or the engines also, cause I mean they are almost egg shape to begin with. Double eggplane.

What are your plans for the other parts, tail, rotor, etc? Also what scale would this be at?

Yep the engines will be eggs as well.
I haven't shown a rendition of the proposed final look as it forces you lot to use some imagination .
Thing like the tail booms, rotors etc will be a combination of scratch and maybe a few kit spares thrown in. I solve each area's problems as I get to them .
Scale = NZ Size 7 egg , no real scale but fairly close to 72nd'ish (based on the drawings and kit Ka-226 parts).

Well like an idiot I had a little look around for other victims suitable for egging. Now I have a short-list of 15+ "must-do's".
One in particular is just screaming out to be eggifiyed:




Looks like I might end up with 4 projects laying around on the bench :

Santa's Sleigh (scratchbuild for Sci-Fi II GB)

Really appreciate that . Often wonder if folks can grasp my oddball ways of doing things , or just have a cursory glance at the thread.
Just marking out the egg ready to cut out the window areas and start scribing some panel lines. Just taking this slowly as panel scribing is a new technique for me to try .

Just plodding along with this .
Made the master for the engines, hopefully I'll get to bake some plastic tomorrow :

Well it appears my ailment has arisen again (constant bouncing between projects and finding new things to start ). That's probably the only downside to scratchbuilding - pretty much anything is possible so you end up like a kid in the candy store.

So it looks like this thread might now be a 3'n'1 build as I've just started another eggplane . Staying with my usual love of the quirky:




Have made a new egg master pattern and slaved over a hot stove this afternoon . Just about to hack a huge intake hole. Will post photo progress soon.

the 1:1 is the Як-36, Yakovlev Yak-36.
also known as Izdeliye V, (NATO reporting name "Freehand") was a Soviet technology demonstrator for a VTOL combat aircraft.

Handy hint: Right click on a photo and go down to "Search Google for Image", may help in future.

There are a couple of kits available of the aircraft if that is your desire .

Suppose I really should glue the sticky out bit's onto it and get yet another half-started half-finished thing off the bench. One day.

Cheers Robin. Love the Soviet/Russian ideal - function over form. Certainly tends to create some "unique" equipment.
Besides "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" i.e. only a mother could love such an ugly child .

Very skilfully done so far. Watching this with interest.
