I know that there was a thread, concerning removing chrome from Eduard etch but can't locate it. I'm looking for the most economical way to do this. I prefer not to work, with chemicals or processes that are too toxic. However, I am willing to do what needs to be done. Can anybody give me some advice?

I presume mean the nickel plating found on most Eduard PE? Why do you want to remove it? Planning to use brass blackening agents?

Now I'm no chemist, but judging from a quick googling, there seems to be some commercial solutions out there (like this; no idea if their packaging sizes are anywhere reasonable from a modeler's perspective). Pretty much all other nickel stripping advice I came across involved different kinds of acids.

Then there's of course sanding, but that's probably hardly an ideal solution for delicate photoetched parts.

File the coating off just on the edges you want to apply the solder to?

The size of the parts impede being able to file them down.

I boiled the etch, in a water:vinegar solution. With a little scrubbing, the nickel comes off.
