Hi Gang,

This is a for-fun post, made after I scratched through my spares bins.

These are the remains of models built some 40+ years ago. How many can you identify?

Here's a hint: the scales shown are:

1/9

1/21 (You read that right!)

1/25

1/32

1/35

1/40

A little difficult to tell photos from the scale, but I recognize the 4 duffle bags from the 1/40 Revell M35 cargo truck, the Monogram 1/32 37mm gun from the Jeep & 37mm gun kit (I still have mine) and I think that's the ESCI 1/9 scale Motorcycle w/sidecar kit MG34.

OkAy, time for a trip down memory lane. I think the first tank I painted was Tamiya's Leopard I. It was also remote controlled with a battery pack/control handle you assembled, and a ganglion of wires running up its rear plate.

The top photo is its engine. A molded part with a Tamiya screen to glue over it.

The breech block in the last photo - how many of you have seen the Tamiya 1/21 (yup, 1/21) M2 Long Tom 155mm?

The black and silver gun is the 88mm from the Tamiya Tiger I. he metallic rails are from the Tamiya Sd.Kfz. 8.

The left-most black thing in pic. 2 is a storage locker from the Tamiya 1/25 Centurion.

The gold railings are from the Tamiya Sd.Kfz.7.

The big radio box next to the duffle bags, I don't know what kit it came from. My guess is a Revell kit like their Lance or Corporal, etc..

About 40 years ago, this was an attempt to make a German AFV radio with no references other than my Tamiya 1/25 Tiger I.

Rifles, machine gun and mortar from the Revell 1/40 M35 truck.

I've built it twice and loved the accessories. I have one with the 105mm howitzer (but no accessories or figures in that re issue) I intend to do for the truck and trailer campaign.

Hi Steven,

I built the truck and 105 long ago (still have the diorama base for the 105), and even the wheels for the truck. That said, are they reasonable kits? I'd like to build them again.

Speaking of the Revell 105 base:

Not their 105 but it works:

The brown paint is old I&R Khaki and the yellowish color is Mud from the old Floquil railroad weathering set.

Fred,
Not sure what you mean by "reasonable". If you mean price-wise, I've seen them go for about $20 each at my LHS which specializes in collections and old models, but at places like Old Model Kits.com and others they usually want a lot more. Accuracy wise, both kits have some issues, but they can be built into very nice models with some TLC. Many don't realize that Revell used the same chassis of the M35 for their Lacrosse kit, which seems to be commanding higher prices these days-- and again, this builds into a nice model. All of these kits seem to be harder and harder to find, which can influence pricing. Monogram released the 105 in the 50 years of Revell SSP releases about 2011, that was the last time I saw it. I've been hanging onto my old Lacrosse kit for several years-- still bagged but no box. It would be great for one last go-around if Monogram-Revell re-issued all these kits for us old guys, as they've been doing with the Renwal kits. I suspect they will eventually, but who knows.

The 1/40 Lacrosse was reissued in the SSP program too about 10 years ago and I still kick myself for not getting it. The Renwal one is out now and is really all wrong. They used the wrong truck putting the missile on their 5 ton wrecker. Though I have seen at least one guy do all the work to mount it on a Afv-club M35.

My 105 with the base is still complete and sitting on the shelf. In 1989, Revell took all the figures and accessories out of both the truck and gun and released them in one box.

Stephen,
Yep-- I have an old IPMS Journal with a build article from a Dutch modeler (the name escapes me right now) about "accurizing" the old 1/32 Renwal kit. This guy widened and lengthened the front end, changed the body, rebuild the service platforms, changed the "sit" of the truck, etc. etc. One of the issues that's stopped me from building my Lacrosse several times is the service platforms and steps-- I just haven't figured out a way to build them as a grate--which they were on the real thing. So-- that being said, I have so much work on my bench right now, without a clear view of when I will ever be done, that I'll send you my Lacrosse gratis if you want to build it. Just PM me your address. Mine is in a bag as the box went to pieces several years ago. It's a Monogram-Revell issue (not the latest one), but it does come complete with figures, instructions and decals in excellent shape.

Pm has been sent.

I have to fix my old M35 build. It fell off the shelf and I have to fix the suspension.
