Does anyone know where to get it?
I don't drink wine, so that's right out. Besides, I don't model all that well sober, if I drink wine I'd have a real mess.
I've tried every hardware and plumbing store in the area and all I get is blank stares.
Thanks
matt

Well stocked hobby shop.

I've tried to get people to go in and buy it in bulk

Go to hobby lobby and look for some copper stuff, you can get either soft, medium or hard, a size A4 size sheet for like 6-7 bucks works great.
Its stuff called Art Embross, for copper scribing or something.

I use aluminum/silver in a roll thats 12" x 30" . I got mine at a local arist supply stiore called Pearl Paint, I think they are online. Anyway its cheaper than lead foil by far.

CF... Try checking in the phone book for plumbing supplies. I found a place here that I can buy the stuff by the sheet. I cant remember the weight/ poundage that I was getting, but I usually get the lightest they sell. I picked up a 24"x24" sheet for around $9 if I recall correctly. If it isnt thin enough it can be rolled out thinner. Check a few different places and see if you find what you're looking for. I have the copper sheet and platinum sheet that was described earlier and it works well. I feel I get more bang for the buck though with the lead sheet. HTH. "Q"

FAR BETTER than lead foil is PEWTER FOIL... it is soft like lead, will hold it's shape, and can be easily primed and painted... but it contains next to no lead (which is poisonous and can be absorbed through the skin!) AND it costs about one-third less than lead foil.

Hobby Lobby has it in the "emossing" section for about $10 for a ROLL that is 10" x 14", while my local hobby shop sells a 4" x 6" sheet of lad foil for about $6.50.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll look for the pewter foil. No hobby lobby in the area, but there are a couple of craft stores.
Thanks again.

Being the newbie to scratchbuilding and super detailing models that I am, I must ask, what do you actually use lead foil for.:::::::::ducking because of the rotten fruit being thrown at me::::::::::Is it anything like aluminum foil?

Thanks,
Mark

I just picked up some of the Copper Emboss that Anders mentioned. A large sheet (9-1/4" x 12") of extremely thin copper foil. Its heavier than aluminum foil so should hold shape well. Big bonus: absolutely no lead :-) It $5.29 plus tax

A cost free item which can be used to almost the same effect is the little tubes that acrylic or oil paints come in. When they are finished, cut off the bottom and top, clean away whats left inside and press flat. Works for me. Also is toothpaste tubes (not the plastic tubes) and caviar tubes. #:-)
