The only German submarine to have ever entered the Great Lakes
was U 505.
It was moved, under tow, up the St. Lawrence and into the lakes
and eventually made its way to Chicago and it is now on display
at the Chicago Museum of Science and Technology.

Cheers,
Joe

OK, that all makes sense. Navigating the St. Lawrence River / Seaway submerged might have been a bit of a challenge. However did they find a sunken sub somewhere near the mouth of the river?

No German u boats were sunk at the mouth of the St Lawrence.

The u boat sunk the closest to Canadian waters is U 215, a Type
VIID minelayer, discovered in 2004.

She lies about 150 nautical mile north east of Boston and south of Nova Scotia
but she is not in Canadian waters.

Thanks Joe. Maybe that was the one I heard about, but clearly not in Canadian waters.

Marc,

You may have heard of the rumor that some divers claim that
they have found a U boat in the Churchill river in Labrador.

But to this day, no one has confirmed its existence and officially,
there is no historical documentation on the part of the Germans that
any u boat operated that far inland.

There is evidence though that the Germans did set up a weather
station on the coast of Labrador but no info as to how it got
there.

Some quick reading that was published by the National Post in 2013.

Cheers,
