Anyone doing any metal casting , white metal or ? The plastic rims for my 1/9 Harley Hillclimber wont survive the lacing process , they are cracking at the slightest manipulation. Resin is out as well. The mould making I can do , just need tech info on the metal properties.

i think you can try search it online or you tube it to find information and tutorials.
If you don't find a suitable tutorial on you tube, you can search books that involve metal casting. I've seen some engineering material books that have information on casting.
Hope this was helpful for you.

Thanks you guys!
I spent the morn looking at porn, no, I mean casting supply and videos on you tube. My main question is which metal is best to do my rims in and be able to polish to chrome -like finish.

Looked at these the first is ok the second is production spin casting with large dollar equipment.
Thanks!

...polishing is easy, I don't think casting aluminum is possible though!

I would think white metal would be too soft to put a good shine on. I used to do some brass casting back in high school. Probably could be done with some ingenuity and readily available materials, but of course polishing it would result in a brass colored finish...

This is where the correct alloy will come into play ,there are some that will polish up. Got this on Britmodeller as well ,some good info starting to come in.

you can polish the white metal or aluminium but dont shine like chrome, the problem is also the casting to be polish have to be perfect without any bubble and is not easy in a DIY cast...you already think about paint with Alcad chrome and polish that?

If it don't polish up , something I found with white metal in a small m/c kit , I can go to the metal powders or wax or alclad , yes. The problem with that is the need to jig the hub and rim for lacing the spokes, if the finish is compromised its real hard to fix after all that work.
input appreciated , thank you!

yaya I seen that!
Testors/Jimmy Flintstone's Jade Grenade , everything here is polished kit white metal, rubbed it for hour , it wouldn't get or keep the final shine, a little frustrating:

Hello, here are a couple of links to what I call detailed reports with photos, videos and manuals on how to cast aluminum parts safely and effectively. Enjoy:

Thanks I see aluminum has twice the heat needed to melt as white metal or pewter. I have found the equipment and material to cast my parts , its on the way. Watch the Hillclimber thread on these forums.
