Where oh where are the scratchbuilders ?.

Considering that the KitMaker.net supposedly has 71,021 registered users then surely there should be some more activity on this part of the forum.
Has the hobby become so kit and AM oriented that folks no longer have/see the need/desire to scratchbuild (laziness ?).
Often I've read that folks don't have the time to scratchbuild , yet are happy to exclaim that they spent XX hours adding AM parts or painting etc. etc. - simple solution folks - it's called time management .
Also I know certain folks that do some scratchbuilding prefer to stay on their favourite section of the site, however in my personal opinion this both defeats the purpose of this sub-forum and lessens the exposure of the scratchbuilders skills/techniques which in turn condemns scratchbuilding to the fate of the dinosaurs .
So as a personal plea and for the sake of the hobby - please start to use this forum and show your skills and techniques here.
And lets get away from the "does anyone one have plans for ....."

Steve - I get the feeling that are missing the point of this thread - why would/should folks have to use a search engine when there is a purpose focus forum here ?.

Another niggle - here the named moderators last post in this forum was 13/09/2015 (a single line comment), prior to that his last entry here was 12/10/2007. Hardly deemed as promoting the forum.

Nige - I'm not in a position to 'prod' anyone, considering I've done 5/8th's of F all lately. However as you said it would be great if others started to use this forum and bring it back to life.

I follow a few scratchbuilders. None of them are members here, they're on other boards, or have their own sites.

The two off the top of my head:

Alexander De Leon (Sctach-builder.com)

and

Charles Rowley is one who does Fire apparatus. (on ScaleFireHouse.com)
I've had the pleasure of doing some 3-D CAD work for him on one of his current projects.

I haven't been doing much scratchbuilding, as much as kitbashing lately.

I can only imagine the conflagration here if half a dozen scratchbuilders started putting work on this thread. It would be mayhem!
Most seem to want their work 'isolated' ie: personal blogs. I scratch components for my projects , I will never have time or resources to completely scratch a subject.
Scratchbuilt projects need their own space.

I don't know, while it may seem that traffic on the scratchbuilding side is down a bit I think these things tend to move in waves. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see a resurgent "wave" of builds over the next couple of years. Truth is, the builds will likely pick up and travel in unexpected directions or new modeling themes. Who knows? Maybe the next generation of scratchbuilders is currently forming around sci-fi or anime markets. Only time will tell.

New kits, new options, shifting market tastes all play a part in what gets built and what people are enthused enough about to strike out on their own and build themselves. I remain pretty optimistic about the scratchbuilding world, especially on the military modeling end of the spectrum. It seems to me that this may simply be the calm before the next "happy time".

How many
interesting to compare the responses, albeit a few from the original post have passed-away but also how many are no longer active members on Kitmaker .

I had some scratchbuilding plans, a Husky for instance, but then it turned up as a kit. I had also started collecting references for a PTS-M but then a resin kit came along. A KrAZ-255 looked like a real challenge, a paper card model was purchased to serve as templates and then Roden followed by Hobby Boss announced plans for kits. There are some other examples as well (Swedish CV-90 and others).

Like I've said elsewhere, these days there is so much available in kit form that I tend to "scratch-bash" rather than "scratch build". It's all about the path of least resistance to achieve my modelling goals...

How are you doing ? I have been away from the plastic for a while after I lost my mojo again ! Drops one of my models at Dundee last year and only just got around to repairing it last night !

Hoping to get into a new project now with a 1/24 Bedford MK by KFS and scratchbuild an UBRE pod to go on the back !

Good work Tom. Many of the components look very like those in the Sherman ARV I that I drew up and started scratchbuilding years ago, just located differently to fit the A27 hull.

Hi Bob! We shoulda talked about it yesterday at OnTrack...

One of these days I'll have to get back to it, but for now it sits in a box. I'm not surprised the gear looks similar to the Sherman ARV - I'm guessing the same folks were involved in both fit-outs!

I'm still scratchbuilding these days. I haven't stopped and doing some big projects. I haven't posted here lately due to the fact there was no interest so I post on FaceBook. I've been doing a lot of interior work on some of the newer modern US armor. I also just finished a few US heavy hull trailers, military generators w/ trailers and so on...
