I'm seeking a cheap set of minature drillbits and a pin vise.

The drillbits have to be really small in diameter ( I dont recall the exact sizes) suitable for tasks like making holes in 1/35 machine gun barrels like the .50cal, or boring holes for grab handles/tie downs, and so on.

Lil's does offer the tools I need, but tossing over P800 for them slivers of steel seems a little too much for me...tried looking at specailized hardware stores, but the drillbits are tailored for general home use.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

I believe there's a shop near the LRT Carriedo station and Philippine Rabbit terminal in the Lawton-Avenida area which sells what you need for a little less than 200 pesos. I forgot the name of the store and its exact location. I've been meaning to go there myself, but I can't find time for that just yet.

Once the other member see this I'm sure one or two of them would remember the details. I believe jomz has already purchased a pin vise from there. :-)

I've been to the store Latiex is talking about, but I don't remember the exact address. It's called Aroma Time Center and they sell tons of small parts stuff at great prices. Tweezers for P30-P75, files for P75, crystal cement for P120, and pin vises starting at P120. Bits are pretty cheap too - P32 each I think. The salespeople are nice, and very helpful, even though most of their customers aren't modelers like us... Best to bring at least P1000 or so when you go, you'll want to load up and though their prices are low, things add up quickly!

While you're there, you might want to check out the main branch of Enriquez Art Supplies. It's just around the corner from Aroma. Haven't checked it out though.

Kinda criminal when you think about it - when a particular item is priced at the stratosphere when a more cost effective equivalent is also available.

Place is rather far from someone who lives in Parañaque, though...at least that gave me an idea to search the watch/jewelry shops in the immediate vicinity...may find something like that as well.

Thanks!

The Tamiya drill bit set I got was a joy to work with, albeit the Tamiya pin-vises are separated into two -- one of the sets being able to accomodate smaller, and more fine drill-bits, whilst the larger one for the larger drill bits. Yup they are pricey and one can get a pin-vise-drill bit set from, I forget which manufacturer -- which is able to accomodate from .1 drill bits to, oh, 3.22 ata na size. The issue on the collets though for these types of sets, I have no idea about.

Both sets of the Tamiya pin-vises if you add them up will total to oh about Php 800, add to that the fine-drill-bit-set which goes for oh around Php 450.

HTH.

Invest on those precision tool kits. They make good improvised drills too. I used them and I swear by it.
