Hi guys
I ran into a problem today I have never even heard of before. This morning I went to check on some things I painted yesterday afternoon, and when I picked up a piece the glue from the tape had for lack of a better word melted to the piece. I checked several other pieces that were painted in the same sitting and all of them more or less had the same problem.
I was able to sand the glue off without to much trouble. and plan on repainting maybe tonight. I am wondering if anyone else has ever had or heard of this problem and maybe know of the cause. I would really like to avoid this from happening again.
Any ideas ? Thanks

What brand masking tape? It may have had a solvent in its glue which softened the plastic underneath. One rule of thumb, after painting, let the paint dry for a short time, then promptly remove it,this will help revent the tape's glue from damagingwhats under it.

What type of paint are you using? Enamels can some time attack the glue in some masking tapes

I had the same problem on a past model. I found that it was the tape. I have since stopped using the cheap stuff.
I guess that what I get for "barrowing" tape from work. :-)

All I use is the green painters tape that you can buy at the home repair stores gor general work...and a small narroe tape 1/8" across for detail work....similar to Tamiya tape.
The green painters tape cuts well...sticks well enough not to let the paint bleed through...but doesn't stick so well that it is hard to pull of, or pull off paint from underneath.

If the masking tape was old it will sometimes do that too.

Tape should be removed immediately (if not sooner) after painting. I have found in the past that no matter what kind or brand of tape you use, the adhesive will dry and could certainly make things difficult if not ruin what you have applied it too.

Hi guys
Animal, I was using Model Master's Olive Drab. The masking tape was a cheap dollar store brand. I guess thats what I get for trying to save a buck or two. I'm just glad that nothing was damaged beyond repair.
Thanks guys
