Hi there Homer. Thats a good build. It looks clean though. Maybe a little weathering would highlight it. Are there still M41 in the AFP's inventory?

And how were you able to make that white decal?

COOL! The M41 is one of the prettiest tanks ever produced. You did really good just using the basic Tamiya kit and that's just OOB! Paint job looks ok to me. I particularly like the canvass cover of the mantlet. I had the Tamiya kit once, followed their suggestion of using plastic for the canvass. Ended up melting the gun barrel. Was there a particular way you placed the tissue for the cover? I'm particularly interested at the canvass' harness - how'd you do that? I also like the rust on the tracks - very nice. :-) And lastly, do you have a relative who lives in BF Homes Paranaque?

Inquiring minds need to know! :-)

Great job for the decals also! If you can do justice to Tamiya's M41, you'd be able to do wonders with the AFV Club M41A3. You can even modify it to add an engine (currently in the process of trying to scratchbuild one).

Just an off-hand query on how to resolve that wettish-looking patch of decal(?) residue around the area of the decals -- WITHOUT weathering of course. This happens (the wettish-looking-patch) because essentially, the paint the decal is applied on is FLAT, right?

This is what is called silvering. A flat coat might be able to solve this problem.

Thanks for the compliments. I like your V 150 too, very nice job also.

I want my tanks on the clean side of things. I did some weathering as you can see some highlights in the details and corners. There are no more M41 in the AFP inventory that is battle ready. You can see one on static display at the AFP museum and 1 at the PSG grounds with PSG urban camouflage, and puno ng kalawang. HOw;s the weather in JErsey?? Over here is -4degree F right now 1/30/2004 wind chill factor is -15degree F. FREAKING COLD

LATtex
I made those decals by using the magic of ALPS printer. Have to draw them by using corel draw or illustrator to put it simply.

I used tissue paper for the canvass mantlet cover. USE THE KLEENEX brand as they are very strong when wet. Cut tissue to small size DIPPED in a solution of WATER and ELMERS glue. Consistency?? YOu decide. You may need to put several layers until you achive the desired look. As the tissue dries up you need to move the mantlet up and down so you can create the folds and natural bends of the "canvass" on mantlet later just like the real vehicle. The canvass harness around the edges were made from masking tape cut to size and painted tamiya khaki
I do have a sister who lives in BF home pque but got married. she happens to have a different last name though.
Lastly the most accurate M41 for PA is M41A2 by AFV club also stock#35S11 not the M41A3. Wala ka ng gagawin at bibilhing after market stuff

How to solve the wettish looking patch around the decal?? No easy way. YOu have to spray with a flat base clear coat. I have to correct LATtex about this. Its not silvering, Silvering happens when decal does not adhere to the surface of a FLAT rough surface. Creating an airspace between the decal and the surface.
THe old way to eliminate "silvering" is to paint the whole model kit with gloss coat to remove flat rough surface . Apply decal. and coat the entire kit with flat base.

MY solution is to dip the decal in water as usual and prior to applying the decal ddunk in a solution of Tamiya X22 clear with drops of water,, instead to coating the whole kit with gloss paint coat. OR apply with a small brush dipped in tamiya X22 clear to area where decal will be place. Gently positon the decal and slide it from the wet paper backing adjust the positon of the decal. This serves as my decal setting solution. Remove excess gently from one corner of the decal. and youre set. Spray with flat base coat. I have not done the last step when I took the picture. I need to let it dry for about 1 day for the decal to dry completely. I was just excited to show you my M41.

Wow! Thanks for the nice information/tip you provided there. Plus that bit on the canvas mantlet cover really helps as I'm also working on my first Tank project, and the current mantlet it came with just fits too badly -- Latte'X and me, I remember, were thinking of ways to properly replace it. Your tip helped.

Oh yeah.

Forgot: THAT IS ONE SEXY Tank you've got there, plus that touch of patriotism just adds to it's über-coolness.

Not that cold here but lots of snow to shovel after that storm earlier this week. Its around 15-30F. I was up in Vermont during the weekend & the weather was good there, bright & sunny xcept that it's freakin COLD, -10F @ night & only up to 7F during the day that's when we decided to go out & hit the trails with the snowmobile.
