I use various brands of superglue, but I always have both a regular viscosity and a gel around.

Hmmmm, Rob my friend, there's something about your avatar that is different....can't quite put my finger on it........wait a minute, I know! You need a shave!
I believe a Hanna-Barbera razor should do nicely.

I use a slower setting CA that my hobby shop carries. It is a bit thicker and sets in about 15-30 seconds. This gives me time to get the glue on the part, the part on the model, and (usually) time to futz around aligning the part before the glue sets up. For those times when I just can't (won't) wait, I keep a bottle of accelerator nearby. One drop and I'm set (pun intended, but still pretty bad).

I tried several brands. Finally, I got to work with Zap. I use the pink one mostly, but sometimes the gel-like slow bonding stuff too. They also have a debonder that works well.
