As you are located in Austrialia, suggest you try and contact your local chapter of the Viet Nam Vets Motorcycle Club. Any one of the brothers would love to lend their experiance and their uniquely Austrialian perspective of their service during the war. Tell 'em Brother Patch of VNVMC Washington sent you.

My dad served from 69-70, almost a full year but he was wounded and sent home. He was awarded two bronze stars and a purple heart. I am in the process of scanning all the pics he took, he served on an M-48 Patton tank, I can also find out exact info from him if need be

I'm not as up on the army lingo...animal when you say unit do you mean division? I can ask him for sure but I know he was in the 1st dividion until it was sent back state-side to Kansas I believe? At this point he was folded in to the 25th division "Tropic Lighting". I will ask him for a more detailed description as well as to make sure I have my facts correct.
I have also uploaded the first test picture into my gallery, I finally figured out Photoshop and will start working on these photos when I have some free time ( which may be never with school and all #:-) ) As the description says...my dad is the closest one to the 50 cal, on the left there...

Enjoy and I shall return with better info!

Animal,
I just posted a second pic with markings on the front of the M-48 "25-2-34.....HQ 19"
Perhaps this is a clue until I find out for sure tomorrow

Your Dad served with a unit of the 25th Division. This is the Division that I was assigned to. I was at Cu Chi. Ask your Dad where his area of operation was. Bolo Woods per chance?Great Pics. Thanks for sharing them.

ok here are the two units my dad was with:
1St Inf. Div, Troop A, 1st Sq. 4th Cav 3rd Plt.
and
HHC 2BN 34th Armor 25th Inf. Div.

He said he was mainly around the Iron Triangle but he was also part of the group that went into Cambodia, I have some pics of them there in the Michellen Rubber Plantation.
Hope this helps, I'll have some more pics up this friday.

Reminds me of a funny story....While my dad was on R&R in Australia he ordered some coffee in a lil cafe...he asked for cream and sugar and the waitress asked him for sure..."cream?"
She left a lil confused and returned with the coffee along with a large helping of whipped cream floating on top! I guess if you want cream you say "white coffee". lestweforget....is that still the case?:) He was also telling me about playing cards with you Aussies, great stuff, he said he really loved seeing Australia.
