Dear all,
I've made an ebay purchase for a display case, and the item in question is kind of foggy- the plastic has been scratched (lots of tiny scratches).
What's the cheapest and best way to polish it up?
Thank you

Which plastic? The display itself is plastic? The shelves? Depending on which plastic it is, you can get a small blowtorch nd pass it over the plastic very quickly. It will eliminate scratches. There's a cabinet make near me who does this routinely on brand new builds to get rid of scratches which inevitably occur during cutting and shaping. There are plastic polishes you can buy, or you can even try toothpaste. There are even products for motorcyclists that will get out some scratches on our face shields.
For the sake of time and relatively low cost, I'd try the blowtorch method first, if the shelves are acrylic.

Try the polish they make to clean the oxidation/fog off head lights. You may have to follow it up by spraying clear over the plastic cover.

Thank you; I'll try the polishing stuff; it's a great idea.

How about painting it with clear gloss ? If it's plastic .
