I used to own several books on the panzer III's and IV's, but sold them. I thought I was done with that line of builds and stupidly sold a library. I can no longer remember which books I had. I prefer the N. Africa Theater of Operations. Could I get some opinions on which books to invest in? TIA

Hi Matt,
If you are looking for technical books in order to check and detail I would recommend Panzer tracts, Achtung Panzer and Spielberger.
For operational photos and information, I have heard that the best were the Hemidal Books Afrika Korps and 21st Panzer Division, but I'm no expert...

Carlos, can you be more specific as to which issues of Panzer Tracts and Achtung Panzer issues I should look at?

Sorry, I thought you were familiar with the Panzer tracts series. They do not cover the Pz IV family for the moment. As for the Pz. III it depends on which versions you are interested in:
Panzer Tracts No.3-1 – Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf.A, B, C
Panzer Tracts No. 3-2 - Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf.E, F, G, und H
Panzer Tracts No. 3-3 - Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf.J, L, M, und N
Panzer Tracts No. 3-4 - Panzerbefehlswagen Ausf.D1, E, H, J, und K
Panzer Tracts No. 3-5 - Panzerkampfwagen III Umbau (variants)
You can see more information and order directly from the publisher here:
http://panzertracts.com/
As for the Acthung Panzer, there is only one volume for the Pz IV (volume 3) and one for the Pz. III (volume 2), and another for Stug III if you need it also.

There is a Panzer Tracts on the IV, number 4. However it is out of print and I haven't seen one on sale for years as those who own one obviously hang onto them. Achtung Panzer 1 also covers the Pz IV (3 was a revised version of it) but again, I've not seen one on sale for ages.
No doubt J&D planned to give it the same multi-volume treatment as the Pz III and others but no sign yet. There is also the rework of Begleitwagen if you can cope with some of the publisher's added irritants but at least it is based on primary sources unlike many books on the subject.

Robert: I'll put out feelers for the Panzer Tracts and Achtung Panzer. I have no problem, with an author's attitude.
