What do you do with the plastic left over from the models , are they suppose to be recycled or just throw in the trash ? There nothing on the box to indicate disposal . I hit up dragon care and it's been several weeks and they still don't have an answer . If postage was not so expensive I would throw them in a box and send it back to dragon .

When I was younger I would just save all the left over plastic in it's original box, sometimes something would break on a particular model I was working on and would go to this box/boxes and try to find a piece that I could make a replacement out of or even make something from scratch that I thought of. It would save me once in a while.

Maybe their are other manufactures out there that would want that left over plastic though, maybe hit up more than just Dragon, just a thought.

Round here they only recycle plastic drink bottles, so mine just go in the household waste. I'd prefer it if they took it in the recycling bin, but it seems the contractors our borough uses only recycle more profitable materials like bottles and paper...

1.Antennas

3.Endless lengths of ship rigging and cables
4.Bits and pieces for scratch building
5.Grind it down, mix with solvent and you have a lifetimes
worth of filler putty
6. Etc, etc.

Oh and of course....CA glue applicators

I also have several boxes of spare parts, Tiger, PZ III & IV, American, Russian ect. Ect. But I still keep a box next to my bench that gets filled with the scrap spruce. Like others I use them as paint stirrers make parts holders but mostly they end up in with the plastics recycling

Hi Edmund,
Your heart is certainly in the right place, but I believe this really falls on your local municipality and/or recycling contractor. Have you contacted them to see if they accept styrene, resin, rattle cans, etc? The company that collects my recycled goods will collect many items but as I understand it, not all are actually recycled after separation.

And if Dragon was to initiate a recycling program, I’m almost certain of whom the cost will be transferred to … can you guess?

As in the comments above, I also do my best to repurpose as much waste as possible.

I save some for scratch building material. However the majority of it I save up in a box and when I have a substantial amount I send it to one of our Armorama members, Anthony Fuentes (captfue). He reuses it and molds new figures and things out of the sprue I send him. He is a nice guy and always friendly and appreciates the stuff I send him. So you might contact him if you want and I am sure he would appreciate receiving all that you have.

Well I just feel bad throwing it into the garbage . You can only save so many pieces for antennas and things like those , but dragon won't say anything so into the trash it goes . Seems like a waste ?

The actual cost of the plastic in the kit is miniscule. (I knew this, but it came up in a phone conversation again just the other day with a manufacturer.) Think about it, toys with far more plastic cost far less than a kit. It's just not worth the effort to send back to the company. I too use the sprues for antennae, but only a few. The rest get recycled.
There's an article in a Model Railroader I have in which a guy in Russia used to heat up his waste plastic and squash it into a flat mold to make his own cardstock. Thankfully those extremes aren't necessary in most of the rest of the world.

I sent a small pack of resin dust back to Accurate Armour for recycling. But then Canada post and Homeland Security got upset at the white powder leaking out of the envelopes.

Pretty much the same here. I actually have a dedicated waste basket where all that goes (including PE and Resin plugs). If it gets too full I just dump about half of it into the recycle bin. Lately (well longer then that) I have not had an issue with the waste basket filling up. My post signature with the campaigns I joined explains it

Cheers

Dragon care doesn't care, much about anything.
