If youre referring to the Dauntless SBD, the answer is no. We never had them.

Ack! Malas! But was it used on towards the attack on Japan? At the battle of Coral Sea, who was attacking? Japan or US?

The Accurate Miniatures SBD-3 comes in Coral Sea markings. But Buck is right that the SBD's swan song was Midway.

Speaking of SBD, the USAAC in the Philippines was suppose to get a delivery of 27 A-24s (US Army equivalent) of the SBD in late 41 or early 42 but the shipment never made it the P.I. due to the Japanese blockade. If the war started later than Dec. 41, chances are we had them here and a few may have been given to the Philippine Army Air Corp.

We did have some A-27s here (T-6 Texans modified and converted as dive bombers) that were enroute to Thailand but were diverted to the Philippines just before he war. They sported thai camo patterns but th insignias were overpainted with US roundels. Most however were caught on the caught on the ground during the Japanese bombings of Clark and Nichols from Dec. 8 to 14, 1941.

As for SBD units, the Philippine Army Air Corps never had any but there were US Navy and Marine units in the Philippines in 1944 and 1945 that were equiped with SBDs. One of them was Marine Air Group 22 -- based at Dagupan which flew sorties over Luzon, and the Manila to do spot bombings in suport of infantry. They were caled " MAGs Dagupan" and a few of them flew "vengeance" missions over Corregidor island prior to its retaking in 1945.

FWIW,

Yari

Coral Sea was an attack and destroy operation for both the Japanese and US troops. Both sides claimed victory, but US lost in tonnage, Lady Lex weighed more than the Shoho. Strategically I will be on the US side. Japanese losses in airmen affected their loss at Midway greatly.
