Hi all,

I've got a question. Does anyone know a good site about 30's & 40's home furniture and office furniture (including art-deco/art-nouveau design). Especially with good pictures.

A search on Google or Altavista gives a zillion hits, but 99% is of shops and antique dealers.
I need some better references than that.

Thx,

Kris

Kris,
Did you use the picture seeker of Google? Because when I use it and search with the words furniture 1930, I get quite some pictures. Same (but not so much) goes with furniture 1940 and so on.
Good luck

Hi Erwin,

Thanks for the tip, but I already used Google (incl. pic search) with several different descriptions and I don't get exactly what I'm looking for.
I'm more looking into a site about interior decorating in the 30's and 40's.
Seeing the results of search engines, I think I will have to go and take look in books instead of the internet. Thanks anyway for the effort.

I've run into the same problem. If it's for dioramas, I usually go check out a bunch of Time/Life books on WWII and take a look at the remains of rooms in the ruins. Another option I have not yet explored would be to search your local library catalog for Interior design books, newspapers, and even films from the era you're looking to replicate. It won't matter what the movie is about, you're just looking for how the furniture and such is laid out.

Bear in mind though, if you're looking for European designs from the era, US ID won't help. you'll have to seek out European sources for the correct look.

Nice furniture. That bed got a strange paint job, though. I wouldn't use black weathering for those sheets. Looks like a coalminer slept in that bed ! :-)

Hi guys,

Thanks to you all for the help. I went down to the library and found some good stuff there.

Graywolf:

Thanks for the trouble of posting the pictures, but I've got all those kits (didn't get them all at once, that would be a bit expensive #:-) ). I would like to scratchbuild some some art-deco furniture to get something different than the same old dull aftermarket stuff.

Hi Kris

Could you share with us the names of the books you found helpful? I'm looking for the same sort of thing.. I went to my local bookstore and didn't find much. Thanks!
