Next year will be my fathers 50th anniversary of his tour in Vietnam. He was a combat engineer. I would like to build a model of a road scraper that he did a lot of work with over there. I have a few pictures I can use for reference and I have plans in my head for a very nice diorama.....but I am having a very hard time finding the model kit. I want to build it in 1/35 scale but at this point I will use anything I can find.

Would anyone know where I can find one??? I have seen a few road graders but that is not what I'm looking for. It's callad a Road Scraper. I will try to post a picture.

Thanks for any help Danny

Only stuff I've seen like that is over priced metal pre built " toys " , 1/64 or maybe 1/50 scale , with some Cat stuff available in 1/24 but for really big bucks .Usually found with the die cast collector cars , or maybe check out a Caterpillar dealer , they usually carry some of the scale vehicles - mostly painted bright yellow .

Yep. That's what I have been finding. Shame because I know my dad would love seeing one. I guess I could just build a bulldozer from that era....... Not nearly as interesting but better then nothing

Around '66 or so when I was there. ('65/'66). The Seabees and Marine pioneer battalions at Chu Lai used D8s, LeTourneau Turnapulls, and CAT 666s. IIRC. I believe the Army had some Terexes but they may have come along later. THe Army used D8s in the land clearing battalions.

LZ models has what you want. Tournnapull and D8 CAT.

Hopes this helps.

Ooops! Just realized you need an 830MB. I don't think they are available in resin or plastic.

You may have to get a 1:50 scale metal model. If you can't find an 830, a 666 is a four wheel front unit.

THey run from about $40 on up depending on manufacturer. Have to recolor it and put the tac marks on. I think 1:48 or O scale figures would work. You can scale and scratch build the rest of the dio to 1:50
