Do you have a scan of the instructions showing the part? I have a big box of all kinds of spare parts. I might have something that comes close.

Hi Randy, Joe,

Well, very belated reply. Too much going on.

Joe, it can be made with wire except I think the handle is flared where it attaches to the hatch.

Pictures of the geniune article show a plain bent rod with generous weld beads. No taper.
