I am building an M48A3 as deployed to Vietnam in the late sixties. I am thinking of not mounting the IR projector but I am not sure of where to have it stowed. The obvious location is the mount on the rear port side of the turret adjacent to the bustle but I can't find any reference images to support this. Does anyone know where the projector was stowed during operations when not deployed on the mantlet?

You are correct. The mount protrudes behind the air ventilator and has ball mounts on which the projector attaches, facedown. Sorry, no access to my external hard drive for a while now, but I'm sure one of the Googlemaniacs can find it for you.
