Looking at this photo of a plane wreck ......the wing design on the left .....is this possibly a Spitfire?

If it is a Spitfire ....this is probably one of the SAAF 40 Sqdn planes that didn't make it ....you can see the sequence of pics....when looking at the background trees and shrub...the pilot was buried near the wreck. SAAF 40 Sqdn was a reconnaissance Sqdn.

My Grandfather was a Cpl in the SAAF who served as a ground crew member during South Africa's participation in WW2. This pic is one of many from his collection that I inherited. Places that I know he was in and the campaigns that his squadrons were involved in during and just after the war included:
The East African Campaign, the Western Desert, Tunisia, Italy and reaching Austria by the end of the War, as well as a brief visit to London immediately after the war.

Please feel free to take a look at the collection. Any insights and identification of vehicles, planes and locations would be most welcome. Here is the collection:

The "Unknown Aircraft 1941-1942b" is a Boeing Fortress 1, equivalent to the B-17D.
You can tell by the straight leading edge of the fin and the gunner's bathtub under the rear fuselage.

Looks like an engine run-up boo-boo: https://www.flickr.com/photos/100298939@N03/9531851901/in/album-72157635111107104/

A few of the other pics do show the elliptical shape of the Spitfire wing and the engine cowling is another unique sign, as is the cannon fairing plus adjacent stub.

Fiat Cr.42 biplane from the Italian air force by the looks of it.

Crusader tank, no idea which outfit.

A-20 Boston/Havoc, most likely with the RAF.

Volkswagen Kübelwagen

Valentine tank British Army

Looks like another A-20 Boston/Havoc

This is by no means a Spitfire wreck, looks more like the main gear legs of a Dakota.

This and the ones around it look like CMP Blitz trucks.

Now I know this has already been tagged Martin Maryland

But they seem to have found one out there in the African Desert recently. Thought it interesting to mention.
