Now that is truly fascinating and I may just have the answer to it. In July I was in Cornwall, and was speaking to a couple of railway Buffs about the use of locomotives by the British and U.S. forces prior to Overlord. One of them, mentioned, that during a practice deployment (in april/may 1944) an LST was lost, carrying several locomotives. (WD Class locos) this could be them. I'm going to investigate further, and I'll let you know how I got on.....Jim
