Welcome to Texas, I'm not in Lubbock, but is Amarillo close enough? Only 110 miles north of you.

I'm not sure of anything in Lubbock, Amarillo has a Hobbytime that is fairly well stocked. What part a Arizona are you from?
I spent some time there while in the Army.

Back in the 80s, Lubbock had one of the best hobby shops in the country called Chucks Hobbies. The owner, Chuck, was a fantastic modeler himself and believed in keeping the shop fully stocked with everything. He had originally ran the hobby portion of Toys By Roy in South Plains Mall before venturing out on his own. This was also the start of the Verlinden Syndrome so he had tons of that stuff and his dioramas, while perfect, looked like Verlinden catalogs. He finally went out of business because Lubbock is a rather limited market. Another builder.at that time who scratched Russian stuff and could give Zaloga a run for his money was Robert McNaughton I think. Last I was in Lubbock a couple of years ago there was a shop called Wings and Things I believe that was mostly Rc stuff but dis have a fee shelves of models. However, prices were too high. They even advertised scale modeling classes. Anyway, when I went to college at Tech there weren't many model builders (something about beer and coeds taking up most spare time) and I bet it hasn't changed.

There was a shop called Don's Hobbies, The former owner is the curator of the silent wings museum, by the airport. He would know every thing their is to know about modelling in Lubbock.

Silent Wings is an excellent museum. Deserves national recognition and more visits.

I wish I knew how to get in touch with Robert. I went to Texas Tech in 1985ish and he was there. The Toys by Roy were cool stores back in the day. One of the best dioramas I can remember as a kid was at the one in Arlington...Houston, we have a problem. Neal Armstrong on the moon with a coors beer can at his feet.

I lived in Benson mostly, then in Sunsites, and last place was in Catalina and Oro Valley as well. I did a few months at Fort wegotcha, a TDY assignment.

I hope you know there is now a Hobbytown USA in Lubbock! great stock and prices are not all that bad.

Small world, I was a company commander there, back in the early 90's. Wife loved the area still upset we didn't settle there when I got out.

was just back there in February, weather was great and still cold in the morning with wind off the mountains, but still awesome scenery. its almost like a larger city traffic wise, but outlying areas are still open and beautiful.

forgot to add, that Benson is growing as well, a little slower, but will be playing catch up soon I believe. Daughter and I did some fence hopping to check out the Train graveyard south of I-10 near Marsh Station Exit so she could look at all the locomotives!

There is a good hobby shop in Lubbock---Hobby Town on Frankfort close to Lowes Hardware. We have a active plastic modellers group.
