When they say that the plane is bare metal , do they mean it' s chrome aluminum or gloss silver? Any responses welcome.

There's no succinct answer. De Havilland vampires were often painted in "high speed silver," in reality a good deal of the wings were made of wood. P51s had every possible joint on the wings doped and smoothed in order to make the laminar flow effect work. The wings were over painted in a metallic colour. Lest they look like doped messes.

Other aircraft are just bare. But even then any surface that isn't polished aluminum must be painted metallic or it will stand out and ruin the effect. Think radomes, generally fibreglass and painted black in the days of bare metal finishes.

Incidentally the shade of paint to use depends very much on what I just discussed. Was it actually actually bare metal?

The person who wrote the article said it was just bare metal. According to what you wrote, I think I'm going to go with the chrome aluminum . Thanks for the information
