This is looking like Russia's next military action. What are your thoughts and will this lead to a resurgence of more Russian kits?

Please limit this to model kits - no political discussions, rants etc. or I will lock this topic down. Thanks for your cooperation.

If (god forbids) an armed conflict happens there than (sadly) we might see more Ex-UdSSR kits since that is what both sides will use. Likely

+ Some of the short and medium range SAM systems since air / helicopter use will be there. SA15 Gauntlet / SA17 Grizzly

+ Maybe some helicopter kits

+ Worst case some S300 / S400 missile systems

Murphys Rule of war Nr. 45:

When both sides are convinced that they are about to lose, they are both right.

I'm really hoping to see some Ukrainian variants of military vehicles. This seems to be a trend. We have seen many Iraq War and Afghanistan products, due to conflicts there. I have no particular model in mind. Perhaps we will see some resin conversions. I am not a war monger. To be completely honest, I am a very peaceful man. I am just trying to think of this as a marketable niche, in the modelling industry. I would very much like to see bmp and btr variants. Now, I am not sure how much variation there is. But, I would even be happy with up-gunned, up-armored or simply decal sets.

Luckily my order from MasterClub came in before the *excrement connects to the rotating oscillator* over there. Sad how history seems to keep repeating itself over there

No Cheers

There's quite a few pictures of GAZ Tigers at the minute- some good reference for anyone with the Meng kit (like me). Not much in the way of much other stuff seen besides some Kamaz and other trucks. I certainly hope the situation doesn't deteriorate any further over there.

Russia uses the T-90 and T-90A. Ukraine uses the T-80. Both have been released recently. Unfortunatley, Roden is based in the Ukraine. Any potential inconvenience to me over not getting the new 1/35 Opel blitzbus pales in comparison to their current hardships. I just hope real peace will come soon.

As events turn, Russia will have no "boots on the ground". It may be that the Russian Navy and Air Force will be the branches to blossom. Although, I do hope that we see more of the vehicles used by Ukrainian forces. I don't mean to be callous, but I am trying to stay non-political and bi-partisan here.

I saw an interview with a Ukranian Lt inside one of the bases the other day- just behind him was a Ural truck and at least two BTRs- looked like BTR-70 to me- in plain green. Although the BTR's looked more faded in color- could have been the camera perspective though- they were further into the background than the Ural. I saw another of the Russian GAZ Tigers too- in plain Russian green instead of camouflage.

I would love to see another Ural in 1:35. I've heard that the ICM kits are pretty basic.

I thought Trumpeter were doing a new one in 1/35? I only saw the old Revell kit which could possibly have been the same as the ICM one, it looked pretty basic. I think there is a guy over on the Russo/Soviet forum doing a build of three of the old ICM kits.

I'm hoping it will all be settled peacefully soon, for everyone's sake. Especially those in the region. But I do think there's more going on than what the press has reported. I think we've only heard it from the one perspective.
I do hope that the Ukrainian kit manufacturers are not effected by it all. I quite like Masterbox and Miniart's 1/35 figures and I've recently started getting into Roden's WW1 aircraft. I know that's very selfish of me. Its quite possible though that any of those three, or others, will treat us to more modern Ukrainian army and airforce kits in the near future as a result.

I am following that build. That is what has me wanting to see some modern casting techniques.

Steven: Please try to avoid anything that may be considered political. I don't do many ships or planes, but think that these are a definite possibility due to Russia's stance. I am having difficulty following the situation, as the Crimea wants support from the Russians but the Ukranian government does not. I may have the two reversed, in this matter. Something else I hope to see are any technicals in use by the rebel forces. I do know that ICM produced some as used in Afghanistan, but don't think that the rebels would be using something so out dated.

Trumpeter has done the Ural 4320, which was reviewed here. I am currently building it so I can test the new Vallejo modern Russian green paint set.

Was I being political? Just saying that I've only heard one side of the argument.

Stephen,

Tpoics like this can spin out of control quickly. I would prefer limiting the discussion to model kits in production or part of a "wish list". Someone mentioned seeing BTR-70's in an all green paint scheme - that's okay.

Comments on what side is being heard or not being heard is what I am concerned about and will spin this off the topic and out of the forum. If you have specific concerns PM me.

Thanks

For christ sake, you make one comment and everyone jumps on your back. I don't appreciate being accused of trying to stir up a hornets nest when I wasn't.

Yes, let's please not add to Frank's plate. Politics are very tricky. The best way to keep from straying from models is to not share any opinion on the state of affairs. When in doubt, leave it out.

Russ: Does the Trumpeter Ural have decal options for the Ukraine?

Wish list: Protesters/Demonstrator since there are a lot around. Including those bordering on armed revolt. And unlike the existing kit those are modern european not near east

Modern, undamaged buildings like Barack Gates and modern fences

A Lada or a Fiat Polski, the vehicles are seen a lot on TV right now and can be transformed into elder west european cars

I would be nice to see some new figures and diorama accessories.
