In a german tank with chipped zimmerit, what would be the correct color underneath? Red primer, rust or dark yellow? thanks for the help.

This will depends. Most of the german tanks have zimmerit from the factory, in this case, the answer is yes, red oxide for them.
On the other hand, we have the situation when the crew applied the zimmerit in the field, in that case the color will be the base color you used on the model. Hope this help you decide.
