Hi everyone, how do you get the right shade of olive drab? looking at pics of shermans they appear to have faded quite a bit and i want to know how you get this effect on a model.
cheers

Mix a bit of buff into the paint and spray lightly over the surface you wish to fade. Carefully blending in some yellow ochre could also work. Also, adding some pastels or pigments to the surface, creating a dusty look. A fine layer of dust will make the tank look very faded as well.

Sammy,
I use the same technique for aircraft as I did my armor. I 1st apply the basic shade of OD which is usually Tamiya FX-62. I then apply light blotchy patterns of OD with several drops of Yellow, then I add some Buff and another blotchy coat. A 3rd coat of OD and Buff. This gives the impression of paint fading due to the elements. I try to keep areas that aren't directly exposed with less a bleaching effect. I really don't thin these coats any more then I do the 1st coat of OD. The number of various fading coats depends on the effect you're looking for. Then I weather. The final phase is a very thin coating of light earth, with blends everything together.
