Hello,
I am building a Revell Schnellboote kit and am using Eduard Photo-Etch parts for the first time. Does the steel coloured coating need to be cleaned off so it is down to the brass. If so what is the best method to take the coating off.
Thanks Darrell

no . the coating does not need to be removed , the plating supposedly makes using glue easier . the copper or brass PE takes the solder better .

I have used an Eduard PE set for the first time for my Tiger 1 Build and I have trouble with soldering and flux with that awful coating they put over the brass.
I always remove it.

I don't ever remove it, but if you must - a mild acid bath will do the trick.

I had the same problem with Eduards Tiger II fenders , you need a more aggressive flux , by the same token better cleaning .
