As the title says, what is the quietest airbrush compressor. I need to upgrade mine and I'm looking for something really quiet up to $250.

Serving suggestion

Sounds like you want a 'fridge-engined compressor, a few suggestions, such as a tank, regulator & moisture trap essential.

Mine is like this one my kitchen fridge makes more noise

You could mount the compressor somewhere else and pipe the air supply to your hobby room ? Then the question of noise becomes a mute subject . The bigger the air tank the less the compressor will have to cycle on and off .

Might I suggest an alternative?

Co2 tank from local welding supply store, dual gauge regulator, and fitting to airbrush hose < $250

And it's dry, silent, and constant pressure.

I went from very loud Sears shop/tire compressor to CO2 and have never looked back.

Worth a look

Or a commercial grade unit for dental offices. See jun-air.com http://www.jun-air.com/product_detail.aspx?ProductID=628&ProductTypeID=50. Very expensive but zero noise and mine is 20+ years old, and only minor repairs which I did myself.

Check out this link/site: http://www.chicagoairbrushsupply.com/aicobugu.html

It shows the db noise level for various models.

My Iwata Smart Jet is right next to my spray booth. It is VERY quiet. The spray booth fan is much noisier than the Smart Jet.

There are various sized bottles. I have the large, scuba tank sized version, but smaller bottles are available .

I will need s refill here in a week or so, but it has been 3+ years.

Check eith a compressed gas dealer locally for prices.

I have the Iwata smart jet lite. Its pretty quiet, you can hear it on youtube as there are a couple of demos. Its a bit more than 250 but you may be able to find a deal on a used one.
