I've run into a few problems like this. Definitely an idea (sure, there's other ways, but this makes for a breeze with the larger guns).
I did a little Russian AT Gun that had tubular trails; used the long AM barrel and it'd sit on it's nose. Fix? Replaced one trail tube with aluminum tube filled with solder. But, yeah...this would be nice.
