Recently I was at a model contest where the ceiling lights were those big fluorescent ones that turn everything yellow... even to the naked eye.

Of course, all the photos are yellow and everything has that yellow cast to it. I use a digital camera that only has a small flash unit on it (it's what I could afford, ya'know).

Any recommendations on how to overcome this? Are there settings on digital cameras I can try (maybe some 'advanced' menu thing)?

Or, alternately, is there some after-work that I could do in a graphics program that would fix the yellow?

I've got this graphics program called gimp on my computer. I've tried a few things with (very) limited success.

I'd be happy for any ideas or suggestions.

I use photo shop which can overcome the issue you refer too and I suspect that sopmeone who is use to using Gimp can help you sort this issue with that programme.

That would be great. I guess I just need more guidance on which tools to use and what settings to set.

Otherwise I'm getting real good at turning photos all green, or all blue, or all red ! *grin*

Check if your camera offers something like white balance. Basically that allows you to take a picture of a "well Known" dolor, typically whitepaper or more professional a Graukarteor gray sheet and let the camera figure it out. Not sure if compacts offer it, DSLR do

My camera is a Cannon PowerShot SX130is.

I looked through its menus and I can't find anything like a white balance. Bummer!

click on the operations manual. page 73 of the PDF goes into adjusting the white balance.

Sadly, since I've already unloaded the pictures from my camera, I still need to figure out the graphics program fix for the photos.

Try PhotoScape, its a freeware photo editing program thats pretty easy to use and can do a lot..

The other program I use is the Heavy Hitter Photo Shop Elements 10 it can fix almost anything..

If you want me to give a try at the photos.. just PM me for my e-mail and you can send me a couple of photos and I'll see what setting would work for you... I play around with the photo editing quite a bit, but no promises..
