Hey Folks -
I'm getting ready to do some serious gap filling.
I used two part epoxy on the major seam gap
BUT
I want to fill in and smooth with Squadrons White Putty.
I did a forum search and it appears I can thin this stuff with Nail polish remover
(Acetone)

I've never done this before...
Is my assesment correct, and does anyone have any recommendations or gotchas, to pass along?

Thanks

Fireman:

hey this actually works, I tried it on a couple of recent projects and as long as you do it begin using the Nail polish remover i.e. Cutex (Regular Strength) And apply the poish remover just as it putty is drying it works very well. You can find the article refering to this method at the IMPS.com site. it describes how to use this method more clearly. BUT yeah It works very nicely. But takes a little getting used to. But worth the effort since you dont have to use sandpaper on delicate raised areas. When you apply this method.

If you don't already know this, the Squadron putty containes toulene--a very toxic substance. The acetone in the nail polish is no better--and in combination a real ass-kicker! I have first hand knowledge through laziness. The first time I tried it, I didn't use a respirator and had a rather nasty reaction to the fumes (dizziness, nose stuffed up & tingly, slight nausea.) Take my advice--use the respirator. Even with "adequate ventilation", the fumes are like a toxic cloud!
And by the way--this technique works GREAT for filling seams & gaps!

Thanks for the feedback fellas

as far as the toxicity - dizziness and lethargy is just another day for me,
but I'll be careful.

I saw Acetone in a "plain brown wrapper" at Home Depot for like $5 for a good sized can
(A modelers putty needs lifetime supply) but since I already snagged a good sized bottle of my wifes Nail Polish remover, I didnt pick it up.
Thanks again.
