Anybody have any ideas on how to build a block and tackle? I'm trying to build a manual loading dock kinda like an engine hoist but built out of "I" beams. Thanks Scott.

I am willing to bet that if it used I-beams, then it wouldn't be a block and tackle, it would be a pulley and chain. Fist, find a pic or two to pattern it off of, I am sure Mr Google can help. It will probably be in the form of several pulleys inside thick sheet metal, bolted together with a last pulley on the end to drive the others. Use .010 sheet styrene for the sheet metal, find or carve your own pulleys from about .070" styrene or a little thicker. Drill a small hole in it, then make it somewhat round centered on the hole. Chuck it up in your dremel tool and sand it to the right diameter, then use an xacto knife to carve a V in the edge. sandwhich several pulleys and sheetmetal pieces together. Drill four holes in the corners and run brass wire through them. Add bolt heads to the ends of the wire. You will need some chain for it, in whatever configuration, this can be obtained by going to your local craft jewelry store (Hobby Lobby is great) and getting some of the finest stuff there. Mounting it will be a similar affair, but the details will have to come from you and what you find on the net. I will do a brief search and see if I find anything and will update this post.

Here is one I found quickly enough:

If it doesn't do the job, do a google for "Chain Hoist".
