What is considered the best 1/35 Merkava kit to buy? And what are the best aftermarket additions?

It depends on what model you are modeling, i.e. a Mk I, II, III or IV. For a Mk 1 or Two I still think the old Tamiya is a great kit to start with and then add some after market (legends makes several MkII upgrades) or scratch build your own modifications.
For a Mk III the Meng Mk 3D early (no mine roller) is one of the best kits ever produced on the subject both in resin and or plastic.
For the Mk IV again the Academy is a good starter kit and Legends makes many upgrades OR there are the Hobbyboss kits which are a step up from there. Lots of aftermarket PE and resin upgrades and modifications are out there. My first suggestion would be to type in 1/35 merkava on ebay and filter by price low to high and you can instantly see 80% of the options that have ever been made. Cheers.
