Will going over to visit my sister in D.C later this year and are already planing what I should do with my two weeks. So what shouldn't I miss? Sure my sister knows of a lot of things, but there might be something she's missed...

And of course, any hobby shops you can recommend?

Hockey game at Verizon Center.

That sound great, despite the fact that the Capitals isn't my favourite NHL-team...

The World War 2 Memorial, both air & space museums- one is downtown on the National Mall and the other newer one is at Dulles Airport, You'll need to have a Congressman grant you access to the Capital building. The Vietnam war memorial is very sobering in it's simplicity and sheer amount of names. Arlington National Cemetery is a must, the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns is a hallowed sight. Use the Metro trains whenever possible from one venue to the other, makes things easier. If you want to take a 2 hour drive south then this would be great also, http://www.goordnance.army.mil/OTHC/index.html

Hmmm, You used to have to get a pass from from your Congressman or Senator to get into the gallery when that house was in session. Being Swedish, that's a little complicated. Does your sister live in the district, Maryland or Virginia? Her representative's office might be able to issue you a pass.

Capital tours used to (1979) form in the rotunda, take you into the gallery of the chambers if they weren't in session, past the old Supreme Court, former chambers, hall of statues and maybe up a level or two into the rotunda...

Welcome to the New World.

You need a Pass from a member of congress to get on the House or Senate floor, but not to tour.. . Was cool sitting on the floor though, I must say.
