Hey guy's I'm currently working on a large scale M4A3 Sherman. My question is, is there a weld seam on the rear bottom of the turret that goes up and around the bustle? I have looked thru the Hunnicut book and Zaloga books but can not seem to see it. Is it possible that being these were built by the auto industry that they were ground down?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ken

This is not a weld seam, it is a mold parting seam. It's where two halves of the turret mold come together. This area usually looks to be from 1 to 3 inches across, with large grind marks visible. The finish depended on how close the molds fit for that particular set of molds, and how much finish work was deemed acceptable on that day by the QC people. As a rule, Sherman workmanship was really top notch compared to most other countries.
