Jake

I knocked one of these up over the weekend and used it.

What a diference it has made.

Thanks for the link it was very useful and best of all cheap as it cost me nothing to make as the materials were lying about the house.

I got a sarky comment from she who must be obeyed who asked if I had reverted to my blue peter years.

Women.

Gerry, glad you had success! Looking forward to seeing some of your shots!

I'm still dialing in my process, and I'm working on adding a plate of glass on the bottom and lifting the whole box up a bit to create a reflective surface that I've seen some product photographers use effectively. Cool stuff.

Here's a few of my shots so far:

(First two shots)

(The header images)

I have had very little time to actually set up the lights or play with camera settings, so I still have some work to do there. But not bad results for basically turning on the lights and shooting away!

Love the photographs.

I posted a picture of a Pz2 in the constructive feedback section which was taken using my new camera and the light box.

It is leaps and bounds better than my previous posts IMO.

What sort of camera do you use? and can you give a very green photographer any tips, particularly about close ups and depth of field.

Cheers

Gerry - Photos are looking great. A few thoughts to help:

1. It's not the camera. Don't get too hung up on that. Sure, the better/higher end the camera, the higher the quality, but one of my photog buddies uses a cheap underwater camera that happens to have a great macro mode for his product photography.

2. Here's some helpful tips on shooting products/models. The EV comp is a huge tip.

3. Make sure your background paper is thick enough to bend in a gentle curve. This will help make sure that both planes are the same color (your photos have two colors (darker/lighter) on the X and Y planes.

4. White balance, white balance, white balance. Make sure to fix yours to make the photos feel more pure white than yellow white.

5. With any and every photography lesson, the most important thing: trial and error + practice, practice, practice!

Thanks for that most helpful.

The links are the business as well.

Cheers

Thank you for posting this. As I'm lazy, I think I will just order it from Amazon.

Built up one of these this afternoon and did some test shots, results are much better than my previous efforts, going to try another slightly larger and with brighter bulbs. Many thanks.
