Hi ive recently moved into 1/35 modelling as a child i built 1/72 as i used to play battles with them and such

however i tried painting them in detail well it didnt get far
so now im making dioramas and such out of 1/35 but i find that images of the second world war get my mind wirling with good ideas

so i was wondering is there any books you would reccomend which would help me with ideas but also with uniforms and camo schemes and such as i find that the hardest part of painting is is this the right colour?

also where can i get possibly second hand im not fussed bits and pieces little nicknaks of left over parts from kits and such as i would like to have them so when i build dioramas theres objects and stuff i can use to make more detail in the dio itself even if it is just a selection of heads i can pick from or a choice of weapons ,furniture, barrels ect

thanks fuzz
and great website i can see me getting active amongst the community

Didn't we all! It's a rare modeller that doesn't play "zoom, zoom", "boom, boom" with their completed models to this day.

There are many books.

Many, many, many books.

I have just a few:

Really, that's not a lot...

I've been collecting reference books for 40+ years and I get more each year.

Look to some of the books from Osprey Publishing for a start. They have books on all those subjects and most are in the $14-$25 range. Hundreds of books. Once you get into the hobby, you'll find a lot of shops that sell the many publishers and you can shop on line. Ask for specific referrals and look at the online reviews that can usually be found via a Google search.

Bookfinder.com is a meta search engine for mail-order 2nd hand books hops all over the world and Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc. also can be used to search out specific subjects and then you can search for reviews for more detail.

Ahhh, you are looking to build a "parts box". We all have them and we all built them through building models and then discarding & salvaging those models when they no longer serve a purpose. Also, some kits now have optional parts which we save. In addition to a parts box, there are a number of companies that produce diorama accessories that include things like buildings, furniture, bottle & pans, boxes & crates. Lastly, you'll learn to scavange in hobby shops for associated hobbies, such as train models and doll house makers. Some of the doll house stuff is especially useful for building interiors although most doll houses are larger scale than 1/32-35. Train stuff for layouts if more usefull for the 1/72-76 scale modeller but some of it can be adapted.

I hope this helps a bit.

Lastly, and please don't take offence, but a little punctuation goes a long way in making sense of messages so we can provide better help.

All the best and Welcome!

Paul

Hi,

Some, in no particular order, very good (IMHO) diorama books reviewed here:

Building Dioramas: Stone Objects

Capturing Clervaux - A modellers tale

Let's Build Diorama # 1: Urban Scenes

Let's Build a Diorama # 2: Terrain & Vegetation

Thankyou everyone and paul , I was still stuck in online gaming mode .

Your library is massive and I bet very useful.

I have been looking on the likes of ebay, hoping someone was selling a big job lot of kits, with loads of little parts and such to no avail.

I am wondering is there any good websites with references to the uniforms , and camo schemes in the second world war with abit of detail, concerning what units and where or even painting guides for certain models .

thanks once again.

Yeah, it sure is. Still, it's not as big as many who have been in this hobby as long as me (or even less long).

Yeah, no. Doesn't happen much in this hobby at all. Building a parts stash is a long term project and one that is hard to rush. Start by looking for specific accessories and acknowledge that you'll be accumulating bits for later use. Just about any kind of diorama bit or bob can be found as part of an accecssory set from either the main line injection kit companies or the specialist resin manufacturers. Spare vehicle bits, though, are something you have to accumulate kit by kit.

Got to model shows. Buy older kits second hand from individual traders. Buy older kits from friends at club boot sales. Check out the sales racks at local shops. And, after you've built a few models and find that you no longer want the ones you learned your skills on,. you can break them up and salvage the parts. Like we all have.

Yep, there are . A LOT of them. Do google searches for specific topics. Ask specific questions here, on Missing Links, on Track Link and any one of dozens of other sites that relate to somewhat narrower topics. Ask a specific question and I can almost guarantee that you'll get good info quickly on almost any topic.

If you want, I can send you tons of photos of Panzer IIIs and IVs. Oh, but, you must have a DVD drive.
