what do you mean by tow shackles?
if you mean tow ropes, then the method i use is;

get the kit ones,(usually solid plastic things)
cut the actual ropes off, leaving the actual hook things on the end.
get a pin vice, and drill out the ends where the ropes will go.
get some suitable nylon string(tamiya kits already contain this)

mix up some very dilute pva solution, and brush it on to the rope/string.
leave it to dry for a while,
once dry to the touch, insert the ends of the ropes into the predrilled holes,
shape the rope by draping it over the model,
leave to dry completely.

then paint whatever colour you please. this will further harden the ropes.

hope that helps

I noticed at my local Hobbytown USA that they carried some white metal model ship fittings. Among these were some U shaped shackles that looked like tank tow shackles. I think they were used to secure the white metal anchors to whatever rigging (rope or chain) the ship model used.

They weren't overly expensive, but each anchor set only included one or two shackles based on the number of anchors the set had. I didn't have anything to compare in size to what would be good for a tank though.

I did look at my hobbystore in the boat-section, but mine didn't carry any shackles, a lot of rope and chains, but not the shackles. I saw on missing lynx.com that someone had them on the tank... it didn't say who's the builder otherwise I could contact him... Does Verlinden carry them maybe or another company??
Thanks for answering anyway guys!

Try Model Expo, Inc. Their website is "www.modelexpo-online.com". They specialize in wooden ship model kits and carry a lot of ship fittings. Give their website a try.
