I recently bought tamiya extra thin (the one with the green cap), and i just went to open the packet, and then the jar, and it wouldn't open . I tried long nose pliers... and still nothing. I'm thinking of returning it, but it took 10 days to arrive, so it's probably gonna take 20 days to get a new one. i'm thinking of putting it in a bowl of very hot water to evaporate the solvents, but i'm worried it may make the glue thicker or something...
All help and tips are appreciated

I would recommend using a pipe wrench. I'm not sure why it won't open. The cement has nothing to bond to. It was probably over torqued.

I've had a couple of bottles that were like that. Lid was put on with too much torque, and I had to use plumbing pliers to get it off. Now I keep a pair of channel-locks in my modeling tool box, and hold on to my empty bottles of extra thin just in case I have a lid that gets broken while opening.

I've always kept a pair of large Vise-Grip pliers at the bench for stubborn caps and lids.

Helo,

Here's a secret old trick that I use to open Tamiya bottles when they are stuck. It also worked well with my Model Master bottles - I guess it should work with ANY brands with a plastic or metal cap too. Should work with the bottle of your extra thin cement as well.

The trick is to heat up the cap in hot water. To do so I put water in a small cereal bowl about 1 cm deep (you really don't need more of it). Put it in the microwave for 30-60 seconds, depending the initial water temperature and your microwave oven's power. Bring the small amount of water to boiling or near boiling. Take out the bowl, put the bottle in it in the upside down position (cap down in the water). Count to 10, and while doing so get a towel. Now grab your bottle with the towel and unscrew the cap with joy.

Done in a minute without special tools and without any struggle.

IMPORTANT
1. Do not microwave your paint/glue bottles. Heat up the water THEN put the bottle in it.
2. The cap will be hot for a few seconds, and there will be hot water drops on it. Be careful, always use a towel.

If all else fails, may I suggest a hammer? One good whack ought to do it! (Just kidding, of course)

Just run it under hot water from your kitchen/bathroom sink. Hot water will expand the plastic cap and make it easy to remove.

Probably it just got put on a little too tight at the factory.

I had the same thing happen to me a few months ago. After a few dozen taps on the desk it opened though.
