We are now under 60 days and counting till the AMPS Nationals show in Atlanta in April. One of the features of the show is a trip to Ft. Benning to tour the Infantry Museum and the Armor and Cavalry Storage and restoration facility.

There may be some misunderstanding by those that are planning to attend, that they can just drive down and see the Armor and Cavalry facility. This is not true. The facility is not open to the public and you must have special permission to go there. It will be at least five years before the public will have access to these vehicle.

Don't miss out on this chance to go there. I understand there are limited spaces available for the tour on Thursday, April 18th. You can register for the tour only by preregistering for the AMPS show. You can do that by going to:

http://www.amps-armor.org/ampssite/default.aspx

The facility has many one of a kind vehicles that are not available anywhere else in the US and possibly the world. Some of these are the Tiger I which has just returned to the collection from germany where it was on loan, the T28 Heavy Assault tank (good reference for your Dragon model.) There are alot of the vehicles from Ft.Knox, some of which were in storage there and not available to the public. Also they have some vehicles that have been recently transfered from Aberdeen and Anniston.

Here are some pictures of some of the vehicles there:

Don't miss out if you are planning to come to the show.

Oh come on... it's ONLY a 16 hour drive. Or...cheapest airline ticket I can find is ~$350 round trip from Boston to Atlanta. Of note, that's about the same cost as taking the train from Boston to Atlanta too.

If there's anything in particular you want/need photos of, post it up so others can see it and hopefully help you out.

It's moving from 'a couple hours' to an all day Tour of the facility. This just got even better.

Jesse,
Actually it is now scheduled to spend all afternoon with the Armor Collection vice a couple of hours as envisioned with the initial plan... Not that I really know what is going on with the tour, wink, wink, nod, nod

Indeed. That's what I was trying to communicate.

Old: a couple hours, and then to the Infantry Museum
New/better/improved: a couple hours in the morning, lunch on base, then couple MORE hours in the afternoon.

Good stuff.

I so ever want to hit this tour; I’m just not sure what time we will be in on Thursday. Tom Faith, Tony G. and I are planning to leave on Wednesday night hoping to be there early enough. I’d like to commit but still unsure….however I’m so looking forward to the show.

Happy Modeling,
Joe

It's been sold out. If you're still interested, contact the AMPS guys and they can put you on a waiting list in case someone cancels.

Driving all night from NY to get to Atlanta before 8AM? I've made the trip the other way, and it seems like it would be a tough drive.

See you at the show!
