I am building a 1/720 Forrestal class carrier missing the lower hull(used kit), and am making a new hull bottom from basswood. I was wondering what the best adhesive would be for attaching wood to plastic with the least chance of separation in the future. I will also hold the hull to the bottom with ten screws.

Jim I think your only real choice in this case is an Epoxy glue.

I was thinking the same thing. I have heard some epoxies don't adhere to styrene plastic all that well, but I don't know if its true or not. I don't expect any wood movement to break the bond because the wood will be sealed on all surfaces before attachment. With ten screws holding the two pieces together I doubt there would be a problem. An additional step I should take would be to thoroughly roughen the plastic bottom insert to give the resin something to bite into. I guess I've got it worked out, unless someone else has different info.
Thanks Darren,
Jim

As long as you don't knock it superglue will hold it well enough but seal the wood first.

Epoxy glue is absolutely the best choice. If you used super glue you would have a too short time to match your parts that as far as I've understood, are likely to be quite large. Besides, super glue gives you a "stiff" bond. The more elastic bond that you can get with epoxy glue would last for a lot of time

Just my opinion anyway

Cheers
