My daughter is learning how to drive. I went with her on the interstate for the first time today. Before she pulled out onto the road she looked at me and said she preferred driving with me rather than my wife. I asked why and she said "because you won't scream if we die."

2nd laugh of the day, good one Russ. When I taught my daughter she preferred me to her mom for two reasons. 1st, I don't scream at her when she makes mistakes and 2nd she said because I drove tractor trailers for years that I would know how to handle a crash. Go figure.

Russ,

Funny as hell. Scary though, for me personally. I have two daughters 18 and 16. Neither is driving yet (and not really interested either), but when they do (shivers...)

Not sure I am ready.

Ha Ha! That brings back memories! Best of luck my friend. I remember taking my nephew to get his license. On the way there he nearly runs a red light, I yell, and we stop just in time before another car wipes us out. After a few moments of silence my nephew then turns to me and says "honest Uncle Jim, I really am a good driver!" As I said, best of luck to you!

A long time ago, I taught a Portuguese girl to drive....

NOT ONLY did she have the Latin habit of very animatedly talking with her hands, (OFF the steering wheel, btw),
BUT she would also LOOK AT you while doing so, (also while not holding the wheel...)

For the sake of everybody we agreed she shouldn't drive...

I have 4 daughters and the youngest is now driving for a year. Gives me worse willies than combat did. Only one has not totaled a car. All are unhurt, thank God.
But the best one had to be when I taught my little sister to drive. We had a VW Beetle at the time, with a manual transmission. She got in, grabbed the wheel, looked down, and said -"But there's three pedals and I only have two feet!"
I fell out of the car laughing.

You Guys should listen to Bob Newhart`s "The Driving Instructor" on YouTube - you might be tempted NOT to teach someone after hearing this (even if you can stop laughing long enough to draw breath !)

I know what we think as parents when this happens. I don't know about you, but I can remember the first time I solo'd in the car. I was scared to death!
